Some Quick Updates

As our second club meeting is approaching this coming Wednesday, I’d like to take the time to thank each of you for being part of this community and making things possible. We have had two get-togethers so far, and it has been beautiful to see so many faces, both new and familiar. Within a month, we have cultivated a chosen family full of people of many different backgrounds and colors of the rainbow. What great things can we accomplish together if we can do all that in so little time? The possibilities are endless, and I look forward to the future!

In between the first movie night and our upcoming meeting, I have been working hard on creating our official club website to provide an online hub for everyone to gather and stay involved. Not all our members use Discord and I wanted to make things more accessible for all. Here, you can easily RSVP to upcoming events, stay updated on what’s to come, engage in fun discussions with other members, check out our staff, and donate to fund future club events. In the future, we will also have a mobile app for easy access to club activities on the go!

A few days ago, we started accepting donations to purchase a Nintendo Wii for the club, and we made our goal within only 48 hours! Thank you to each of our generous donors for your support and for making the club Wii a possibility. The Wii is currently hooked up and available for use in the back lounge area at Kava Kula. As of today, we have Super Monkey Ball, Family Feud, and Just Dance, all of which are multiplayer. If you have any Wii games that you’d like to donate/share with the club (or know someone who does), please let us know via email or give us a call. You can also leave them at Kava Kula and let one of the kavatenders know it’s for Club Unity.

Club Groups

You might have noticed a new page added to the website called “Groups.” This is a place for members to create their posts and reply to others. Currently, we have a general Community Board as well as a Writing group for members to post their original writing. The same rules as our Discord server apply to Groups and you must be officially registered for the website to gain posting permissions. If your original writing contains sensitive content that may be triggering for some members, please issue a content warning. Depending on the nature of the content, your post may be removed, and you will be given a written reason as to why with the opportunity to appeal it.

Future Events

We are currently discussing hosting Ormond Beach Pride next month at Fountain Square. There is not an official date yet, but it will be posted both to the website and the Discord server as soon as it is decided. If you are interested in helping organize this event, or would like to attend as a vendor, please email or call us. We have confirmation that there will be live music and bake sales!

The second meeting is Wednesday the 22nd at Kava Kula and there will be snacks provided, Wii games to play, and $10 tarot readings by Mike! We will also have an opportunity to sit down and pass around Uni the club turtle and share some fun information about ourselves!
